Providence, R.I. (August 3, 2026) – United Way of Rhode Island is pleased to announce Jennie Johnson has joined the organization as its Chief Advancement Officer. A respected nonprofit executive and relationship builder, Johnson brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in philanthropy, partnership development, and community engagement.
As Chief Advancement Officer, Johnson leads United Way’s fundraising, donor stewardship, and strategic growth efforts. She will play an integral role in further elevating the organization’s 100th anniversary, and in leading its special Centennial Campaign to support United Way’s next century of service. This work builds on Johnson’s career, during which she’s overseen transformational fundraising initiatives and developed partnerships that have expanded opportunity for Rhode Islanders and strengthened communities across the state.

Most recently, Johnson was Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement and College Relations and Executive Director of the Foundation at the Community College of Rhode Island. There, she led significant fundraising growth and secured millions of dollars in philanthropic investments supporting student success and workforce development.
Prior to CCRI, Johnson spent more than 16 years with City Year Rhode Island, serving in several leadership roles that included Executive Director and Vice President. During her tenure, she developed sustainable funding strategies, cultivated public and private partnerships, and advanced educational equity initiatives for thousands of Providence students. Jennie’s professional experience also includes leadership positions with March of Dimes and the RI Department of Human Services, reflecting a career dedicated to improving outcomes for individuals and families across the state.
