Aging and Disability Resource Center: A Single Door to Support

When older adults, people with disabilities, or caregivers need help navigating complex systems, the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) offers a single point of contact for information, counseling, and connection to critical resources—no matter their income or circumstances.

For nearly two decades, United Way of Rhode Island has partnered with the state’s Office of Healthy Aging to deliver the ADRC as part of the national network of aging and disability resource centers. Under Live United 2025 and the Lift United pillar, this work reflects our commitment to equitable access—making it easier for Rhode Islanders to get the help they need, when and how they need it.

Recent years have underscored the importance of this approach. Through the new No Wrong Door model, individuals are directed to the right resource regardless of how they first reach out—whether through a phone call, a community partner, or the United Way Outreach RV. This ensures people can make informed, personalized decisions about long-term services and supports, including:

  • Home and community-based services
  • Medicare and Medicaid enrollment assistance
  • Housing options and utility assistance
  • Veteran benefits
  • Caregiver support programs

ADRC specialists speak multiple languages, collaborate with direct service partners, and coordinate closely with 211 so that no one falls through the cracks—especially during crises like floods, data breaches, or public health emergencies when ADRC, 211, and the Outreach RV work together to bring information and resources directly to the community.

Donor support makes this reach possible. Your gifts allow ADRC to meet Rhode Islanders where they are, reduce barriers to access, and use real-time data on urgent needs to shape advocacy and inform future program design.

Why it matters: When people can easily navigate aging and disability services, they gain stability, dignity, and the freedom to make choices about their lives.
